Hi all, welcome to my new blog! This blog is created to track the restoration of a 1970 Mustang Mach 1.
In 1990 I was spending my summers home from college working at a paint and body shop. The 1970 Mustang fastback I had as my first car had been stolen and destroyed. I decided I really wanted to build a car, so I found the Mach 1 in a Georgia junkyard, pretty much intact. Hopefully I can find some pictures of what it looked like then.
I managed to out the car back on the road with new floorpans, rear quarter skins, and a few other things. I replaced the 351C-2V with a rebuilt one. I kept the stock FMX trans a got that to working with a stall converter. But things were never fixed right, there was much rust under the body that was never addressed. I finally decided to tear it down and fix it right. I was making good progress other than continuing to find bad spots until my daughter was born. She is 5 now and I am beginning to get back in full swing on fixing the car. Current needs are:
- Cowl repair
- Replace engine compartment panels
- Replace full rear quarters, trunk panels, outer wheelhouses
Vision for the car:
- Restomod, improve everything with the goals of street performance, reliability, and ease of maintainence
- Beef up the 351C with Australian heads, 4V valves, hydraulic roller cam, and EFI.
- Convert the transmission to a Tremec 5 speed
- Rebuild the 9" rear with better gear ratio (currently 3.00 (!!!) with a detroit locker
- Upgrade the suspension to a tubular coilover front
- Upgrade brakes to 4 wheel disc
I will post some vision pictures later as well.
